As I write this in September/October 2026, our last significant trip was to Greece back in May 2025, about a year and a half ago. I was supposed to go to Israel back in March of this year, but that ended up being canceled due to war events and ended up in Illinois instead.
We had planned to go to France towards September of this year, but that was recently called off as my Wife recently lost her job and this isn’t looking like a good time for us financially to do a large trip. Now it’s looking like the earliest we will be able to go anywhere is towards August/September of 2027.
As someone who is used to at least one significant trip per year, this is driving me a bit crazy. Perhaps I should just throw caution to the wind and do another attempt at the Israel trip, which I would do on my own. Sure, it’s a level 3 advisory right now according to the State Department, but it seems like that’s what it usually is. Currently I am neck deep in a data migration project at work, and it looks like the earliest I will be able to pull this off is February 2027.
Until then I will just keep chugging along doing the same day-in, day-out routine here in Seattle. Saving on travel costs I suppose does help draw us closer to our early retirement goals. We also have a trip to Portland coming up in a few weeks, maybe that will help out a bit.
